Art for All

In an effort to encourage creative expression, participants will be exposed to a variety of mediums and methods. Adapted/modified tools will be used to help participants engage with the materials. This is an inclusive , meant for children of all ability levels. We will focus on the process over product. Visuals will be used to help participants follow directions. Each class will be themed and will focus on age-appropriate projects with room for creativity and fun!

Cookin' it Up >

Cookin It Up

This class will focus on the basics of cooking and prerequisite skills needed to become master chefs! Participants will make predominantly nonbaked items, such as dips, appetizers, and other yummy creations. Participants will get to take home 1-2 new recipes after each class. There are visual recipes with step by step directions so that we can include participants with a wide range of abilities.

If the participant has any food allergies, please let the Larkin’s Place Director, Alyssa Anderson, know so recipes can be planned in advance that accommodate all needs.

Gamers

Bring your devices and get ready to GAME! This is a flexible gaming group for anyone interested in gaming with others. A Minecraft server will be hosted, but other games can be brought as well. This group will be supervised, but is intended to be a place where tweens and teens can explore gaming together, and make connections with others who share their interests.

Move Shake Adaptive Dance >

Move Shake Adaptive Dance

Dance is a great way for people with different abilities to have fun while improving motor skills, confidence and socialization. Through simple patterns, sequencing and repetition, the students will learn the basics of movement, rhythm and basic dance. Creative movement and stretching will also be incorporated to promote artistic freedom and strengthening of the body.

NEMO Swim Lessons >

NEMO Swim Lessons

 

A program designed for individuals with special needs.

Through both one-to-one and group opportunities and in collaboration with occupational therapy and speech-language pathologists, lessons embed motor, sensory and language concepts to facilitate awareness, safety, engagement and social interaction.

Individualized goals assist the participant in moving forward into group swim lessons with support, and each class is developed around the individual needs and ability of the participant(s).

Parent/caregiver participation is encouraged and may be required.

Our neurodiversity group is a place for those who may be diagnosed as neurodivergent. This includes individuals on the Autism spectrum or those with ADHD, however, anyone who wants to gain social experiences without judgement is welcome to join.

The Rolling Heat Wheelchair Basketball >

The Rolling HEAT Wheelchair Basketball Program

The Rolling HEAT Wheelchair Basketball Team is a prep-level wheelchair basketball program, registered with the NWBA. The Rolling Heat offers a supportive environment for young athletes, ages 6–13, to develop foundational wheelchair basketball skills and prepare for competitive play. Our program is led by a Paralympian coach, ensuring expert guidance for every participant. Whether your child aspires to join a traveling competitive team or simply wants to build skills, we welcome all players.

More than just a sport, wheelchair basketball with The Rolling Heat is an opportunity to cultivate confidence, build friendships, and strengthen teamwork. Athletes will learn discipline, enhance competitive skills, and connect with a welcoming community that celebrates their abilities.

If you or someone you know has a lower extremity disability and is interested in wheelchair basketball, The Rolling Heat is dedicated to supporting every player's journey, both on and off the court.

Sibshops with UIUC

This exciting collaboration is part of a national effort to create supportive and engaging workshops for children who have a sibling with a disability. All children will be supervised and will be able to engage in fun and interactive activities, while being around others who may be going through similar experiences.

Sports for All

Sports for All is a series of 5-week, skill-based programs that introduce fundamental sports skills in a fun, supportive, and non-competitive environment. Whether participants are trying a sport for the first time or building confidence, our focus is on learning, teamwork, and fun.

As a Larkin’s Place friendly initiative, these programs are intentionally designed to welcome individuals of all ability levels. We believe every child deserves the opportunity to play and belong. With adaptive support and encouraging instruction, Sports for All ensures every participant feels included, valued, and empowered to grow.
