Covid Facility Updates Facility
Hello Stephens Family YMCA family,
We wanted to keep everyone abreast of all the facility updates that are in place starting June 1st. As you may know, there could be additional changes if Governor Pritzker, the DCEO, or our local public health make more changes on June 11th. June 11th is the date that has been mentioned with a possible move to phase 5. But in the meantime, this is what is going on at the YMCA as of June 1st:
Masks are currently welcome but not required of our members if they are vaccinated. If not vaccinated, please continue to wear a mask. We trust our members to do the right thing so that they can protect themselves as well as the community at large. Exceptions to the mask policy include the following:
Masks are required for children in camps and child watch.
People playing basketball still must wear a mask.
The climbing wall area will require mask usage as well.
Group Fitness: We will have a new Group Fitness launch starting on June 1st. There is a new schedule with new times, new instructors, and different class offerings. Come join us. Cycling classes will still require reservations due to facility capacity limitations.
Child Watch: New Hours!!!! Child watch is expanding their hours on Saturdays from 7:30-noon starting June 5th. We are also increasing the daily time limit to 90 minutes of supervision. We hope this helps families with their weekend plans and accessibility to child watch. Children in child watch still need to wear a mask.
Summer Camps: Summer camps begin on Tuesday June 1st. We are excited for an amazing summer. Children in summer camps will be wearing masks unless they are outside AND can maintain social distancing.
Aquatics: We will be implementing share usage lanes in the pool. This has always been the policy at the YMCA until Covid. With the vaccinations available and the chlorine environment in the pool, we feel it is safe to go back to multiple people in a lane when swimming. Reservations are still required due to facility capacity regulations. Swim lessons begin June 7th.
Walking track: Masks are welcome but not required if fully vaccinated.
Locker rooms: Locker rooms will be fully open. Please remain socially distanced and wear a mask if you cannot stay at least 6’ from others. Saunas are not open as of yet.
Gymnasium: The gymnasiums are a busy place in the summer. Group Fitness, summer camp, basketball, and other activities happen in the gym. On stormy/rainy days, the gym is usually not available from 7:30-5:30 as we need it for summer camp space. Please be reminded that when playing basketball in the gym, everyone must wear a mask.
Lobby: The lobby will not be open for coffee yet, but we hope that returns soon.
We continue to keep the best interests of our members and staff as a priority. Thanks so much! Summer is here, let’s all have some fun!
