- What is a "sensory room" for?
For people with certain developmental needs, even such an inclusive place as the Y can become too stimulating. Ask someone with autism how difficult it can be to compensate for a bout of sensory overload. No matter what event is taking place–from a relaxing swim to an exciting birthday party–they are faced with the choice: “meltdown or exclusion?” Sensory rooms provide a safe, quite environment to weather the momentary storm before returning to your scheduled activity.More info
Join the Y
Join the Y and become part of a family of more than 20 million members in more than 2,600 YMCAs across the country. Listed below are four ways to be involved in your YMCA.
A facility membership provides you with access to the YMCA wellness facilities, programs, and activities. In addition, many programs are offered at a reduced rate for facility members.
Support the YMCA through charitable giving. Contact our Development Director at 239-2809 or visit sf-ymca.net and click "Give" for more information.
Enroll in YMCA programs without the benefits of membership. This is the first step in experiencing the YMCA before becoming a vested member with membership privleges.
Volunteers are a critical force in the YMCA. Volunteers create policy, coach, mentor, supervise, clean, organize, fundraise and so much more resulting in thousands of hours contributed to the YMCA's cause. Contact the YMCA at 359-9622 and ask to speak to the director of the department for which you would like to volunteer.
